Overview
Glenlyon is a small village in the Shire of Hepburn, set about 10 km north of Daylesford on the Daylesford–Malmsbury Road and roughly 101 km from Melbourne via Kyneton and Malmsbury. Nestled on the Loddon River, the main street is shaded by mature European trees that give the town an “English” feel and a cool summer canopy. The 2016 Census recorded 389 residents, many of whom enjoy the rolling pastures, grazing livestock and volcanic soils that produce potatoes, cereals, organic vegetables and lucerne.
The village centre revolves around a revitalised general store that also operates as a café with outdoor seating, a public hall (renovated in 2018) and a monthly market on the third Saturday. Nearby, the Glenlyon Recreation Reserve offers a mineral spring, picnic and BBQ facilities, and hosts a pony club. Good road links make commuting to Daylesford, Ballarat or Melbourne feasible, while the housing mix reflects a blend of professional commuters, retirees, weekenders and hobby‑farm owners.
