Overview
Camballin is a small town in the West Kimberley district of Western Australia, situated on Camballin Station about 110 km south of Derby and midway between Derby and Fitzroy Crossing. At the 2016 census the town recorded 729 residents, many of whom are school teachers and other staff supporting the nearby Looma Community. The housing stock mainly accommodates these workers, giving the settlement a close‑knit, service‑oriented character.
Residents enjoy a modest range of services including a caravan park, a small shopping centre (fuel not available), reticulated water and electricity, telephone facilities and a pay‑phone booth, as well as mechanical repair services. A local landfill, mobile satellite phone coverage and a picture garden add to the basic amenities, while the town’s power station supplies electricity to Looma and New Looma. The town’s position between Derby and Fitzroy Crossing provides road access to those larger centres.
