Overview

Nestled in the Peel region between Dwellingup and Waroona, Nanga Brook is now a tranquil pocket within the 55,000‑hectare Lane Poole Reserve. Surrounded by jarrah, wandoo, marri and blackbutt forests and close to the undammed Murray River, the area offers a lifestyle centred on outdoor recreation, with natural waterfalls, rock pools and a network of popular campsites such as Baden Powell, Nanga Mill and Charlie’s Flat.

Although the original town – laid out in 1909 with 56 homes, a store, butcher, hall, billiard room, school, tennis courts and a sports oval – was abandoned after the 1961 bushfires, the site still provides modest amenities for visitors, including the Icy Creek Environmental Education Camp for students and community groups. Access is limited, with only one or two sealed roads, reflecting its remote, nature‑focused character.
