Oolong sits on the Hume Highway between Goulburn and Yass, giving residents quick road links to larger regional centres while retaining a quiet, rural feel. The locality also lies on the historic Main South railway line that opened between Gunning and Bowning in July 1876; although the small station and its platform were closed in February 1972 and removed in the late 1980s, the railway corridor remains a notable feature of the area.
