Overview
Alyangula is the largest township on Groote Eylandt in the Northern Territory and was built in the late 1960s to house Groote Eylandt Mining Company workers. The 2021 Census recorded 751 residents, almost all GEMCO employees, creating a tight‑knit community. The town enjoys a tropical savanna climate with a warm, dry season and a hot, wet monsoon.
