Lorne, VIC 3232
Overview
Lorne is a coastal town in Surf Coast Shire, Victoria, on Louttit Bay and the mouth of the Erskine River. At the 2016 census it had 1,114 residents, but holiday seasons swell the town, with about 13,000 visitors for the New Year Falls Festival and over 20,000 for the January Pier to Pub swim. Families enjoy bathing, surfing and pier fishing, while Teddy’s Lookout and nearby Great Otway National Park and Erskine Falls provide scenic walks.
The main strip on Mountjoy Parade features two historic pubs, cafés, bakeries, boutiques, art galleries and the Great Ocean Road Museum. Lorne P‑12 College serves local families, and sport facilities include the Lorne Football Netball Club and Lorne Country Club. The Great Ocean Road, sealed to Lorne in 1922 with a passenger service to Geelong since 1924, gives easy access, while a blend of heritage cottages, guesthouses and newer homes accommodates residents and tourists.
