Meekatharra, a remote town in Western Australia’s Mid West, means “place of little water” in the Yamatji language. At the 2016 census it was home to 708 people, 34 % of whom are of Aboriginal descent. The community serves as a major supply hub for the pastoral and mining districts of the Murchison region, with sheep and cattle transshipment now handled by road trains. The town sits 764 km north‑east of Perth on the Great Northern Highway and is linked by a 2,181‑metre airport that provides Skippers Aviation flights to Perth several days a week.
